[:en]SCRIPTURE: JEREMIAH 5
“”Why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me and sworn by gods that are not gods. I supplied all their needs, yet they committed adultery and thronged to the houses of prostitutes. They are well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for another man’s wife. Should I not punish them for this?” declares the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself on such nation as this?” (Jeremiah 6:7-9)
“But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. They do not say to themselves, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest’. Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprive you of good” (Jeremiah 5:23-25)
“A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land. The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?” (Jeremiah 5:29-31)
God is looking to find one person who is righteous, who deals honestly and seeks the truth. The He could not find even one (vs. 1-2). They were stubborn and refused to repent (vs. 3-4). Even the leaders were blind to God (v. 5). They had broken off the yoke and torn off the bonds (vs. 6-8). They were rebellious, backsliding and adulterous. Therefore, God will bring a distant nation with mighty warriors against them (vs. 9-16). They will devour their harvest and food, sons and daughters, flocks and herds. They will destroy the fortified cities with sword (v. 17)
The people have eyes that do not see and ear that do not hear. They did not fear the Lord and committed sins with evil deeds (vs. 25-26). Therefore, God will punish them.[:]
