[:en]SCRIPTURE: LUKE 16
Bible Verse:
““Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” (Luke 16:10-11)
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Luke 16:13)
“ It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.” (Luke 16:17)
“Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” (Luke 16:18)
THE PARABLE OF THE SHREWD MANAGER (vs. 1-15)
A manager was to give an account of his stewardship. He loves to be wise and invest wealth in people for the future. We can also make friends for the Lord by using money wisely. We cannot serve both God and money nor can we serve both righteousness and unrighteousness. The world measures people by how much they get but God measure them by how much they give.
THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS (VS. 19-31)
The rich man and Lazarus both died. The rich man went to Hades because riches were his god. Money can help send people to heaven and it can also help people to hell.
The rich man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his brothers so that they will not come to the place of torment. He believed that if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent. But Abraham said to him: “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.
THOUGHTS:
This chapter talks about wealth. Jesus taught that wealth is neutral. It can help people to heaven and it can also lead people to condemnation. Therefore, we must use our wealth to make friends for God and serve God.
Three dangers to avoid concerning wealth:
- Do not waste your wealth on temporal things.
- Do not covet wealth and lost your soul.
- Do not make wealth your God.
