SCRIPTURE: 1 TIMOTHY 2
BIBLE VERSES:
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (1Timothy 2:1-2)
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6)
“Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” (1 Timothy 2:8-10)
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet” (1 Timothy 2:11-12)
INSTRUCTION ON WORSHIP (vs. 1-15)
Worship is composed of prayers, intercession, thanksgiving and listening to God’s Word. The most important ministry of local church is prayer. We must pray for the government leaders and people in authority and win them to Christ so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives. Paul instructed men to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger or disputing (v. 8). He wanted women to dress modestly with decency and propriety and do good deeds. A woman must be quiet and submissive. She should not have authority over men because the woman was deceived and became a sinner first (vs. 11-15).
THOUGHTS:
Worship should include prayer, adoration, intercession, request , thanksgiving and listening to God’s Word.
Paul taught us to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger and disputing. Holy hands means clean and obedient life. Without anger and disputing means loving one another.
Paul laid down the three fold headship of church: A)-Headship of Christ over the body; (B)-Headship of the pastor over the flock; (C)-Headship of man over woman.
Characteristics of an ideal Christian woman:
- Modesty – extreme fashion is worldly and glorifies self. What is important is her inner beauty of gentleness and compassion.
- Godliness – devotion to the Lord
- Holiness – pure and Christ-like life
- Industry – Do good works and not lazy
- Submissive – humble enough to listen and submit to the word of God
