SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 3
BIBLE VERSES:
“Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” (Hebrews 3:3-4)
“But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.” (Hebrews 3:6)
“See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:12-13)
“So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.” (Hebrews 3:19)
JESUS GREATER THAN MOSES (vs. 1-6)
The builder of the house has greater honor than the house itself. Moses was a servant in all God’s house while Christ is a son over God’s house.
WARNINGS AGAINST UNBELIEF (vs. 7-19)
God was angry with the Israelites because their hearts were hardened in rebellion. They went astray against God’s ways by their unbelief and were committing sin against God. Those who refuse to hear His voice and disobey him will not be able to enter into His rest.
THOUGHTS:
Beware of having a hardened, stubborn, rebellious, unbelieving, sinful and disobedient heart. For you shall never enter into His rest.
Spiritual truth illustrated by the nation of Israel:
- The Jews were in bondage in Egypt / Sinners are in bondage in this world
- The Jews were redeemed by the blood of lamb / We are redeemed through the blood of Christ.
- The Jews were promised with the land of Canaan. / We are promised with a blessing of spiritual inheritance.
Unbelief is a serious sin that comes from an evil heart. The cause of unbelief is not hearing God’s word, disobeying God’s word or doubting God’s Word. So, it is very important to hear God’s word so that we can surrender our wills and lives to Him for daily guidance and service.
