Our Daily Scripture – 8/25/22

SCRIPTURE:  HEBREWS 10

BIBLE VERSES:

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. ” (Hebrews 10:22)

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23-25)

“For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” (Hebrews 10:30)

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10:35-36)

CHRIST’S SACRIFICE ONCE FOR ALL (vs. 1-18)

The sacrifice of the Old Covenant has to be repeated yearly endlessly.  It was a reminder of sins and the blood of bull and goats only covers the sins.  But Christ’s sacrifice cleaned us once and for all.  The blood of Jesus can take away our sins and make us holy.  He no longer remembers our sins.  Instead, he puts his laws in our hearts and writes them on our minds (v. 16)

A CALL TO PERSEVERE (vs. 19-39)

WHAT MUST WE DO?

  1. Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith. (v. 22)
  2. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess. (v. 23)
  3. Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. (v. 24)
  4. Let us not give up meeting together. (v. 25a)
  5. Let us encourage one another. (v. 25b)
  6. Do not throw away your confidence (v. 35)
  7. Persevere and do the will of God to receive what he has promised. (v. 36)

Those who have received Christ and deliberately keep on sinning must expect a fearful judgment of raging fire.  They deserve to be punished because they had trampled the Son of God under foot and disregarded the blood of Jesus that sanctified them and insulted the spirit of grace.  The Lord will judge his people and He will avenge.

THOUGHTS:

WHY  IS CHRIST’S SACRIFICE SUPERIOR TO THE OLD TESTAMENT SACRIFICE?

  1. Christ’s sacrifice takes away sins but Old Testament sacrifice just covers the sins.
  2. Christ’s sacrifice is made once and for all.  Old Testament sacrifice has to be repeated yearly.
  3. Christ’s sacrifice opens the way to God.  We can come to God at any time.  Old Testament sacrifice does not allow the believers to enter into the Tabernacle.  Only the high priest was allowed to enter into the Holy of Holies.

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO HIS SACRIFICIAL GIFT?

  1. We should give him our total devotion and faithful service.
  2. We should come to him in faith and obedience.,
  3. We should apply Scriptures to all areas of our lives.
  4. WE should accept God’s discipline and guidance.
  5. We should let him control our life’s desires.
  6. We should deepen our relationship with Him by drawing near to him.
  7. We should gather together in worship and enjoy encouragement from one another.
  8. We should share our faith and lead people to Christ.
  9. We should trust him all things in the present and in the future.
