SCRIPTURE:  REVELATION 12

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:  “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.  They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.  Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them!  But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you!  He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”

THE WOMAN AND THE DRAGON (vs. 1-12)

John saw a great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven.  A woman was clothed with the sun, with the moon, under her feet and a crown of 12 stars in her head.  She was pregnant and about to give birth and crying in labor pain.  Then an enormous red dragon with 7 heads, 7 horns and 7 crowns on his head appeared in heaven.  His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth.  He was waiting to snatch the child the woman was bout to give birth.  When she gave birth to a male child, God snatches him up to his throne.  The woman fled to the desert for 1260 days prepared by God.

And there was war in heaven.  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels.  That great dragon called the devil Satan lost and was hurled down to the earth with his angels.  Then the heaven sang praises to the blood of the Lamb and His Word.

When the dragon had been hurled down to the earth, he pursued the woman.  The woman was given two wings of great eagle to fly to the desert.  Then the serpent spewed water to overtake the woman and swept her away with the torrent.  But the earth swallowed the river.  The dragon was enraged.  He went off to make war against the rest of the people who obeyed God’s command and hold on to the testimony of Jesus.

THOUGHTS:

WHO IS SATAN?

  1. He is a murderer who attempted to kill Jesus when he was born (v. 4)
  2. He is a deceiver who deceives one third of angels into following and deceives the world into worshiping him. (v. 9)
  3. He is an accuser who accuses God’s people (v. 10a)
  4. He is a persecutor who wants to pursue and destroy anyone who trusts in the Lord (v. 13).

HOW TO WIN OVER SATAN:

  1.  We can overcome satan only through faith in the Word of God.
  2.  We must confess our sins to Christ so that He can be our Advate to silence Satan
  3.  We must not be on Satan’s side accusing our fellowmen.  Instead we should be on God’s side loving one another.
  4.  We must pray for peace of Jerusalem.
