SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 46
BIBLE VERSES:
“Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan. Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.” (Genesis 46:5-7)
“Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time. Israel said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.” (Genesis 46:28-30)
JACOB GOES TO EGYPT (vs. 1-34)
Israel set out with all that was his and he offered sacrifices to God at Beersheba. God assured to make him a great nation. He promised to go down with him to Egypt and bring him back again.
The numbers of Jacob’s family that went to Egypt were seventy in all. When they arrived in Goshen, Joseph went to meet his father. He threw his arms around him and wept for a long time. Israel was comforted to see Joseph still alive. Joseph told his brothers to tell Pharaoh that they were tending livestock since childhood so that they could be allowed to settle in Goshen.
THOUGHTS:
By faith, Jacob left Hebron and went to Egypt with confidence and peace because he was sure of God’s provision and presence. In times of crisis, God speaks to us and assures us when we take time to worship Him.
