Our Daily Scripture – 12/23/22

SCRIPTURE:  EXODUS 24

BIBLE VERSES:

“The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.” (Exodus 24:12)

THE COVENANT CONFIRMED (vs. 1-18)

God called Modes, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and 70 of the elders of Israel to come up to the Lord but only Moses can approach god. When Moses told the people all the Lord’s words and laws, they responded: “Everything the Lord has said we will do” (v. 3).  Moses got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up 12 pillars representing the 12 tribes of Israel.  Then he offered burnt offering and fellowship offerings to the Lord.  He took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people.  Then Moses, Joshua, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and the 70 elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel.  The Lord instructed Moses to come up on the mountain for him to receive the tablets of stone with the law and commands of the Lord for their instruction.

When Moses went up to the mountain, the cloud covered it and the glory of God settled on Mt. Sinai.  The cloud covered the mountain for 6 days and on the 7th day, Moses was called by the Lord.  Then Moses entered the cloud and went up the mountain.  He stayed on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.

THOUGHTS:

Under the Old Testament law, God determined who can approach Him and how near could people be to Him.  But under grace, we are the one determining our nearness to God.  We are invited to draw near to Him.  Do you spend time in His presence?
