SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 18
BIBLE VERSES:
“You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 18:4-5)
“Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people. Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”(Leviticus 18:29-30)
UNLAWFUL SEXUAL RELATIONS (vs. 1-29)
- Close relatives
- Your mother
- Your father’s wife
- Your sister, either your father’s daughter of your mother’s daughter.
- Your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter
- Daughter of your father’s wife born to your father.
- Your father’s sister
- Your mother’s sister
- Your uncle’s wife
- Your daughter-in-law
- Your brother’s wife
- Both a woman and her daughter; either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter
- Your wife’s sister
- A woman during the uncleanliness of her monthly period
- Your neighbor’s wife
- Giving any of your children to be sacrifice to Molech
- Lie with a man as one lies with w woman
- Sex with animal
THOUGHTS:
God did not want His people to follow the practices of either Egypt or Canaan. He wanted them to obey His laws because He is their God.
Six is a wonderful gift of God to the human family. It is created to bring rich blessings. But if it is used against His will, sex is destructive and brings tragic consequences. Illicit sex leads to disease, deformity and death. It defiles the person, disrupts the family and affects the whole nation.
Several detestable practices in pagan religion and culture:
- Having sexual relations with close relatives
- Committing adultery
- Offering children as sacrifice
- Having homosexual relation
- Having sexual relation with animal.
These are being practised in pagan religion and cultures. That is why God had to set His laws to avoid sexual perversion which are abominable to God.
