Our Daily Scripture – 2/10/23

SCRIPTURE:  NUMBERS 6

BIBLE VERSES:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’(Numbers 6:24-26)

THE NAZIRITE (vs. 1-21)

Rules for one who wants to make a special vow of separation as a Nazarite:

  1.  He must abstain from wine and fermented drinks.  Grape juice, grapes or raisin are not allowed. (v. 3)
  2. He must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, the seeds or skins. (v. 4).
  3.  He must let his hair grow long without cutting it by razor. (v. 5)
  4. He must not go near a dead body even if it is his own father or mother or brother or sister. (vs. 6-7)
  5. If someone dies suddenly in his presence, thus defiling the hair he has dedicated, he must have his head on the day of his cleansing –  the 7th day. (v. 9)
  6. On the 8thg day, he must bring 2 doves or two young pigeons to the priest as sin offering and burnt offering to make atonement for his sin by being present with the dead body (v.s 10-11)
  7. He must bring a year old male lamb as guilt offering for his defilement during his separation. (v. 12)
  8. When the person of separation is a man, he has to present a year old male lamb without defect for burnt offering. a year old ewe lamb without defect for sin offerng, a ram without defect for fellowship offering together with grain offering and drink offering – a basket of bread made without yeast – cake made of fine flour mixed with oil and wafer spread with oil. (vs. 13-15)
  9. The priest is to present all his offerings before the Lord. (vs. 16-17)
  10. The Nazarite must shave off the hair that he dedicated at the entrance to the Tent of meeting and put his hair in the fire as fellowship offering. (v. 18)
  11. The priest is to place in his hands a boiled shoulder of the ram, and a cake and a wafer from the basket without yeast and wave them before the lord as a wave offering.  The breast and thigh that was waved shall belong to the priest.  Then, the Nazarite may drink wine. (v. 20)

THE PRIESTLY BLESSINGS (vs. 22-27)

The Lord taught this blessings for Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israelites:  The Lord blesso you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (vs. 22-26).

THOUGHTS:

The vow of the Nazarites is a vow to devote some time exclusively to serve the Lord.  Three distinct prohibitions are included in the vow:

  1. He must abstain from wine and fermented drink.
  2. He should not cut his hair nor shave his beard.
  3. He is prohibited to touch any dead body.

When we become Christians, we belong to Christ.  We should separate ourselves from sins of the world and keep ourselves blameless whjile serving Him.

GOD’S BLESSINGS COMPRISE OF 5 PARTS THAT CONVEYED HOPE:

  1.  Bless and keep you (Be protected)
  2.  Make his face shine upon you (Be pleased)
  3.  Be gracious to you (His mercy and compassion)
  4.  Turn His face toward you (Giving his approval and favor)
  5.  Give you peace (Confidence without fear and doubt)
