Our Daily Scripture – 4/11/23

SCRIPTURE:  DEUTERONOMY 30

BIBLE VERSES:

“The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. 7 The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. 8 You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. 9 Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10 if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 30:6-10)

“For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.   But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.” (Deuteronomy 30:16-17)

PROSPERITY AFTER TURNING TO THE LORD (vs. 1-10)

BENEFITS OF RETURNING TO THE LORD AND OBEY HIM:

  1.  Your fortress will be restored. (v. 3a)
  2. You will be gathered again from all nations and brought back to the land that belonged to your father. (v. 4)
  3. You will be more prosperous and numerous than your father. (v. 5)
  4. God will put all curses on your enemies who hated and persecuted you. (v. 7)
  5. The work of your hands, fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crop of the land will be prosperous. (v. 9)

THE OFFER OF LIFE OR DEATH (vs. 11-20)

REQUIREMENTS OF LIFE AND PROSPERITY:

  1. Love the Lord your God.
  2. Walk in His ways.
  3. Keep His commands, decrees and laws.
  4. Listen to His voice.
  5. Hold fast to Him.

CAUSES  OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION :

  1. If your heart turns away from God.
  2. If you are disobedient.
  3. If you bow down to other gods and worship them.

THOUGHTS:

God set before the Israelites life and prosperity, death and destruction for them to choose.  His purpose is for restoration so that He made provisions for them to repent and return.  He has also done this for us today.  Which one will you choose?  If you choose life, you will continue to experience His blessings.  If you choose reject and not to follow Him, you will reap the consequences of curses.

The Jews walked away from God but God’s mercy enabled them to return to Him.  He gave them inward spiritual renewals.  Are yous separated from God by sin?  No matter how far you have wandered, God promises a fresh beginning if only you will turn back to Him.
