SCRIPTURE:  1 SAMUEL 28

SAUL AND THE WITCH OF ENDOR (vs. 1-25)

Samuel was dead and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah.  Saul had expelled the mediums and spiritists from the land.  When Saul saw the Philistines army came and set up camp at Shunem, he was frightened.  He inquired from the Lord but got no answer by dreams or Urim or prophets.  So, he found a woman from Endor who was a medium.  Then the woman brought up Samuel to talk to Saul.  Samuel said: “Why do you consult me, now that the lord has turned away from you and become your enemy?  The Lord has done what he predicted through me.  The Lord has torn the kingdom out of you and had gave it to one of your neighbors – to David.  Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today.  The Lord will hand over both Israel and you to the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me.  The Lord will also hand over the army of Israel to the Philistines/” (vs. 16-19)

After hearing it, Saul fell full length on the ground filled with fear.  His strength was gone for he had eaten nothing all that day and night.  The woman offered him some food but Saul refused.  But his men urged him and he listened.  So Saul and his men ate and that same night, they got up and left.

THOUGHTS:

It was Saul who had banned Israel all mediums and psychics but desperation had turned Saul to seek aid in the witch house.  Although he had removed the sins of witchcraft from the land, he did not remove if from his heart.  When you encounter difficulties  and obstacles in life, seek God’s direction.  Do not turn to anything or anyone else for it will lead you to disaster.
