SCRIPTURE:  2 SAMUEL 6

THE ARK BROUGHT TO JERUSALEM (vs. 1-23)

David with with 30,000 men set out from Baalah of Judah to bring up the Ark of God.  They set the Ark of God in a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab.  The son of Abinadab – Uzzah and Ahio – were guiding the new cart with the ark of God on it.  When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Ark of God because the oxen stumbled.  The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah and struck him down.  He died beside the Ark of God.

David was afraid of the Lord.  He was not willing to take the Ark of God to be with him.  Instead, he took it to the house of Obe-Edom, the Gittite.  While the Ark remained in the house of Obed-Edom for 3 months, the Lord blessed him and his entire household.  When David knew that Obed-Edom was blessed by God because of the Ark of God, David went down and brought up the Ark of God from the house of Obe-Edom to the city of David with rejoicing, shouts and sounds of trumpets.

As the Ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal, daughter of Saul saw king David leaping and dancing.  She despised him in her heart.  The Ark of God was brought inside the tent that David had pitched in.  David sacrificed burnt offering and fellowship offering and blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty.  Then he gave all the people a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins.

When David retuned home, Michal said sarcastic and humiliating words to David because he danced before the Lord with the slave girls.  But David said:  “It is God who appointed me over ruler of Israel.  I will celebrate before the Lord.  I don’t care becoming undignified by the slaves girls.  Instead, I considered it an honor.  Michal had no children until her death.

THOUGHTS:

David worshiped and praised God by dancing publicly to express his joy that the Ark of God was restored to the people.  But Michal ridiculed him for being undignified as a king.  She ended childless for life.

Do not be ashamed to worship God in public.  Do not be intimidated by the opinion of others.  Express your praise and thanks to God without fear.  As long as our hearts and motives are right, do not be discouraged when we are being criticized or unappreciated.  We should honor the Lord regardless of what obstacles Satan may put in the way.
