SCRIPTURE: JOB 8
BILDAD (vs. 1-22)
Bildad viewed God as a just God who does not punish what is right. If you sin and plead with Him, He will restore you and your future will be prosperous. According to him, the destiny of a man who forgets God has no hope. His trust is fragile because he relies on a spider’s web which does not hold. He is like a plant that entwines its roots around a pile of rocks that withers away. He affirmed that God does not reject a blameless man or strengthen the hands of the evil doers. He will fill the mouths of blameless men with laughter and their lips with shouts of joy. Their enemies will be clothed in shame and the tents of the wicked will be no more. (vs. 20-22)
THOUGHTS:
Bildad was a Shuhite and a devoted traditionalist. He emphasized on the justice of God and argued from nature stating that for every cause, there is an effect. He was upset that Job claimed innocence while questioning God’s justice. He concluded that people suffer only as a result of their sins. He wrongly accused that Job was trusting something other than God for security and using nature as an example to point out that such support will collapse.
Living in this uncertain world, security is very important in our lives. Everything we have – money, possessions, knowledge and relationships will fail and be gone. Only God can give us lasting security. Let us trust everything to our Lord in order to have a secure foundation of living.
WRONG ACCUSATIONS OF BILDAD TO JOB:
- Job had sin and must repent.
- Job had done evil and was getting what he deserved.
- Job had rejected God.
