SCRIPTURE:  JOB 23

JOB (vs. 1-17)

Job wished to find God and go to his dwelling so that he could state his case before him and provide arguments.

JOB’S FAITH IN GOD:

  1.  There an upright man could present his case before him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge. (v. 7)
  2.  But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. (v. 10)
  3.  But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?  He does whatever he pleases. (v. 13)
  4.  He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store. (v. 14)

JOB’S CONFIDENCE IN HIMSELF:

  1.  My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside. (v. 11)
  2.  I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. (v. 12)

THOUGHTS:

Job wanted to meet God and get a fair trial.  But he did not know where to find him.  What he did was to obey him.  He needed to wait for the furnace of affliction to separate the dross of gold and make him pure.  He could not contend the temperature of the furnace nor the duration but he can feed on His word.

Job continued to question God because he wanted to know why it was happening to him.  He wanted God to clear his name, prove his righteousness and explain why he was chosen to receive all the calamity.  He hoped that God would vindicate him.  Sometimes, we also encounter unexplained trials and tribulation and we cannot understand the reason.  The book of Job teaches us to be patient and wait on the Lord for his time to vindicate us.
