Our Daily Scripture – 11/11/23 (Saturday)

SCRIPTURE:  JOB 26

JOB REPLIED (vs. 1-14)

JOB LASHED OUT AT HIS FRIENDS:

  1.  How you have helped the powerless!  How you have saved the arm that is feeble! (v. 2)
  2.  What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed! (v. 3)
  3.  Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth? (v. 4)

JOB ENUMERATED THE POWER OF GOD:

  1.  He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. (v. 7)
  2.  He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight. (v. 9)
  3.  He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it. (v. 9)
  4.  He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness. (v. 10)
  5.  The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke. (v. 11)
  6.  By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces. 9v. 12)
  7.  By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent. (v. 13)

JOB’S FINAL QUESTION:

“Who then can understand the thunder of his power? ) (v. 14)

THOUGHTS:

Job rebuked Bildad for giving him no help at all.  He summed up the power and wisdom of God.  No one can escape the eyes of God.  He sees you in heaven, on the earth and at the seas.  We cannot hear his whisper so how can we understand the thunder of his power?

While we are trying to help others, be humble to admit that we only know in part.  Therefore, we should understand them first and say words that can bring help and hope to people who desperately need them.  Compassion produces greater results than criticism or blame.

Job summed up the pictures of God’s mystery and power in a beautiful poem of trust.  Job told his friends that they could not know everything about God.  Then, he defended his upright and honest life.  He admitted his imperfection but maintained that he sought to follow God’s way of living with right motives.
