Our Daily Scripture – 1/7/24 (Sun)

SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 41

MEMORY VERSE:

“Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.  The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.  The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.” (Psalm 41:1-3)

BLESSINGS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN MERCIFUL TO OTHERS:

  1.  The Lord delivers him in times of trouble. (v. 1)
  2.  The Lord will protect him and preserve his life. (v. 2a)
  3.  The Lord will bless him in the land. (v. 2b)
  4.  The Lord will not surrender him to the desire of his foes. (v. 2c)
  5.  The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. (v. 3)

WHAT ARE THE SURROUNDINGS OF DAVID?

  1.  His enemies maligned him saying: “When will he die and his name perish?” (v. 5)
  2.  His enemies came to see him and spoke falsely, while their hearts gathered slander and spread it. (v. 6)
  3.  All his enemies whispered together against him and imagined the worst of vile disease had stricken him. (v. 8)
  4.  His close friend lifted up his heel against David. (v. 9)

David finally looked to God’s mercy to raise him up and triumph against his enemies.  God had brightened him up with the light of his countenance.

THOUGHTS:

God cares for the weak, the poor and the needy.  He also wants us to be generous and share to others.  As God has blessed us, we should also bless others by giving freely.

The most painful experience in life is to be betrayed by your best trusted friend.  David’s friend abandoned him in times of harDships.  Jesus was also betrayed by his own disciple Judas Iscariot.  So be careful and watchful in your relationship with friends.
