SCRIPTURE: PSALM 46
MEMORY VERSES:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3)
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
This Psalm is a song of praise for the deliverance of the Israelites from the Assyrian army. The Psalmist considered God as his refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. He will not fear even if the earth changes, and the mountain fall into the heart of the sea or the water roams & foams and the mountain quake. (v. 3)
REASONS WHY THE PSAMIST WAS NOT AFRAID:
- God is the with the nation. She will not fall. (v. 4)
- When God lifts his voice, the earth melts. (v. 5)
- The Lord Almighty is with them. (v. 7a)
- The Lord Almighty is their fortress (v. 7b)
WORKS OF THE LORD:
- He makes war cease to the ends of the earth. (v. 9a)
- He breaks the bow and shatters the spear. 9v. 9b)
- He burns the shields with fire. (v. 9c)
At the end, God gave us this comforting words: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (v. 10)
THOUGHTS:
When we see what is happening now in this world – earthquake, typhoon, famine, wars – it is impossible for us not to be consumed by fear. But the Bible tells us that God is our refuge even in the midst of total destruction. He is our eternal refuge and can provide strength in any circumstances. We must have the confidence in God’s ability to save us. What we must do is to stand quietly before the Lord Almighty and be still, reverently honoring him in his power and majesty. Take time to exalt God and praise Him.
