SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 57

MEMORY VERSES:

“I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;  I will sing of you among the peoples.  For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” (Psalm 57:9-10)

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth (Psalm 57: 5 and 11)

This Psalm was written when David fled from Saul into the cave.

WHAT DAVID DID WHILE HE WAS IN THE CAVE:

  1. He took refuge in the shadow of His wings (v. 1b)
  2. He cried out to the Lord. (v. 2)
  3. He exalted God. (v. 5)
  4. He sang and made music to the Lord. (v. 7)
  5. He praised the Lord among the nations and sang among the peoples. (v. 9)
  6. He glorified God over all the earth. (v. 11)

THOUGHTS:

While David was hiding in a cave, all of us has also our own “cave”.  It may be a sick room, a room where there are tensions or troubles or a difficult place of ministry.  If you do what David did, you will experience peace and victory even when you are in the cave.

David’s faith had transformed his cave into a safe place.  He was under His wings.  When we are confronted with verbal attack, the best defense is to praise God and have confidence in his love and faithfulness.  During times of suffering, do not turn inward to self-pity nor turn outward to take revenge, but turn upward to God.

The desire of David was to exalt the Lord.  He picked up his harp and sang praise to God.  Likewise, we should also emulate David by trusting God, exalting Him and singing praises to Him.
