Our Daily Scripture – 2/3/24 (Sat)

SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 68

MEMORY VERSE:

“Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds – his name is the Lord – and rejoice before him.  A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” (Psalm 68:4-5)

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.  Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.” (Psalm 68:19-20)

WHY IS GOD A MIGHTY GOD?

  1.  He is a father to the fatherless, and a defender of widows. (v. 5)
  2.  He sets the lonely in families and leads forth the prisoners with singing. (v. 6)
  3.  He pours down rain from the heavens and gives abundant showers. (v. 8-9)
  4.  He settles down people from His bounty and provided for the poor. (v. 10)
  5.  He announces the word and the kings and armies flee in haste. (v. 11-12)
  6.  He scatters the kings in the land. (v. 14)
  7.  He bears our daily burdens. (v. 19)
  8.  He is a God who saves us from death. (v. 20)
  9.  He crushes the heads of his enemies. (v. 21)
  10.  He rides the ancient skies above and thunders with mighty voice. (v. 33)
  11.  He is an awesome God who gives power and strength to His people. (v. 35)

DAVID URGED PEOPLE TO DO THESE:

  1.  Sing to God. (v. 4a)
  2.  Sing praises to His name. (v. 4b)
  3.  Extol Him. (v. 4c)
  4.  Rejoice before Him. (v. 4d)
  5.  Praise God in great congregation. (v. 26a)
  6.  Praise the Lord in the assembly of Israel. 9v. 26b)
  7.  Sing to God, O Kingdom of the earth, sing praises to the Lord. (v. 32)
  8.  Proclaim the power of God. (v. 34)

REQUESTS OF DAVID TO GOD:

  1.  Summon your power, O God, show us  your strength, O God as you have done before. (v. 28)
  2.  Rebuke the beast among the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations. (v. 30a)
  3.  Scatter the nations who delight in war. (v. 30b)

THOUGHTS:

David expressed his love for God by singing praises to Him.  He praised God for His protection and provision.  It was a song of faith because many of those benefits had not yet come true in David’s time.  Likewise, we must continue to trust God because in time, He will fulfill His promise.
