SCRIPTURE: PSALM 76
MEMORY VERSES:
“You alone are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet, when you, O God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.” (Psalm 76:7-8)
“Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.” (Psalm 76:11)
Asaph was celebrating victory against Sennacherib’s army’s weapons of war – flushing arrows, the shields and the swords. When God rebuked their enemies, their horses and chariots laid still. Those valiant men laid plundered and they slept their last sleep. He rose up to judge and save all the afflicted of the land. (vs. 5-9)
God is to be praised. Vows to the Lord have to be fulfilled. All people must bring gifts to Him for He is the One to be feared. (vs. 11-12).
THOUGHTS:
From this Psalm, we know that God is to be praised and to be feared. He will judge the wicked and we, the believers must keep our vows. The wrath of God brings praise to Him because it gives Him the opportunity to do great deeds. God turns the tables on evildoers and brings glory to himself. His wrath expressed in judgment brings praise from those who have been delivered.
