SCRIPTURE: PSALM 82
The so-called “gods” signifies leaders and judges of the Israel nation. The judge is supposed to defend the unjust and show impartiality. They must defend the cause of the weak and fatherless. They should maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. And they have to rescue the weak and needy, deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
However, the justice system on earth is corrupt. It brings darkness instead of light. But one day, the judges will be judged righteously by the Judge of all the earth and there will be no escape.
THOUGHT:
The Psalmist called the rulers and judges of Israel “gods” and “Children of the Most High”. They were called gods because they represented God in exercising judgment on earth. Then one day they too will be judged by the Lord.
