Our Daily Scripture – 2/18/24 (Sunday)

SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 83

MEMORY VERSES:

“O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.” (Psalm 83:1)

“Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord – that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.” (Psalm 83:18)

Asaph was worried because Israel was in danger because they were facing many enemies – Edom, Ishmaelites, Moab, Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, Tyre, Assyria.  They plotted together to form a military confederacy against the Jews.  They wanted to destroy the nation and take the land.  So Asaph prayed to the Lord to send a storm  to wipe them out. He wanted the enemies to be ashamed and destroyed and perished in disgrace.  His purpose was to glorify God’s name.

THOUGHTS:

The descendants of Lot refers to Moabites and Ammonites.  The Hagrites may be the descendants of Hagar.  All pagan nations sought Judah’s downfall.  Sometimes God allowed us to face adversity in order to humble us before we can look up and seek Him.  So better seek the Lord in times of prosperity rather than to wait until his judgment is upon us.
