SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 2
MEMORY VERSES:
“For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones.” (Proverbs 2:6-8)
“Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.” (Proverbs 2:12-15)
MORAL BENEFITS OF WISDOM:
- You will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. (v. 5)
- You will understand what is right, just and fair in every good path. (v. 9)
- You will be protected by discretion and guarded by understanding. (v. 11)
- You will be saved from the ways of wicked men whose words are perverse. (v. 12)
- You will be saved from the adulteress and her seductive words. (v. 16)
- You will walk in the ways of good men and travel in the paths of the righteous. (v. 20)
- You will live and remain in the land. (v. 21)
WHO ARE THE WICKED MEN?
- Their words are perverse. (v. 12)
- They leave the straight paths and walk in dark ways. (v. 13)
- They delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil. (v. 14)
- Their paths are crooked and their ways are devious. (v. 15)
BEWARE OF ADULTERESS:
- She talks seductive and flattery words. (v. 16)
- She is a wayward wife who abandons her husband and broke their marriage vows. (v. 17)
- Her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. (v. 18)
- Those who go to her will never return or attain the paths of life. (v. 19)
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Walk in the ways of good men and keep the paths of the righteous so that you can live in the land and remain in it. (v. 20 – 21)
THOUGHTS:
The word “PATH” is used 6 times in this chapter. It suggest to us that life is like walking a path that needs direction, decision and determination.
6 DIFFERENT KINDS OF PATH:
- Good path – makes you understand what is right and wrong. (v. 9)
- Straight path – saves you free from the ways of the wicked men. (v. 12)
- Crooked path – leads you to do wrong and rejoice in the perversion of evil with devious ways. (v. 15)
- Dead path – is the result of seductive words and unfaithfulness to the covenant before God. (v. 17)
- Path of life – will be enjoyed by good men. (v. 20)
- Righteous path – is the path of the upright who will live in the land. (v. 21)
WHAT IS GOD’S COMMAND REGARDING HIS WORD?
- Accept His word. (v. 1a)
- Store up His word . (v. 1b)
- Turn your ear toward it. (v. 2a)
- Apply it in your heart. (v. 2b)
- Cry out for insight and understanding. (v. 3)
- Search His word for hidden treasure so that you can know His will (v. 4)
