SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 3
MEMORY VERSES:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Psalm 3:5-6)
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9-10)
“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” (Proverbs 3:11-12)
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27)
FURTHER BENEFITS OF WISDOM:
- It will prolong your life and bring you prosperity. (v. 2)
- You will win favor with a good name. (v. 4)
- God will make your path straight. (v. 6)
- It will bring health to your body. (v. 8)
- It is more profitable than silver with yields better than gold. (v. 13-14)
- It is more precious than rubles and nothing can compare with her. (v. 15)
- Long life, riches and honor will be yours. (v. 16)
- You will have pleasant ways walking in paths with peace. (v. 17)
- You will be embracing a tree of life with blessings. (v. 18)
- It will serve as an ornament to grace your life. (v. 22)
- You will be safe and your foot will not stumble. (v. 23)
- You will lie down without fear and your sleep will be sweet. (v. 24)
- No sudden disaster will befall you. (v. 25)
- The Lord will be your confidence and keep you safe. (v. 26)
DON’TS:
- Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. (v. 27)
- Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow” – when you now have it with you. (v. 28)
- Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. (v. 29)
- Do not accuse a man for no reason – when he has done you no harm. (v. 30)
- Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways. (v. 31)
THOUGHTS:
This chapter talks about seeking wisdom for guidance to:
- Our Hearts – to keep his commands and teachings in order to enjoy long life and prosperity. (v. 1-2)
- Our Prestige – to have good name by exercising love and faithfulness in our daily walk. (v. 3)
- Our Ways – to acknowledge him by walking on straight path and shunning evil for body health. (vs. 6-7)
- Our Possessions – to honor God with our wealth and firstfruits of all our crops. (v. 9)
- Our Conduct – to accept God’s discipline and rebuke as his love for us. (vs. 11-12)
- Our judgment – to find wisdom and understanding for proper discernment in obtaining safety and sweet sleep. (vs. 21-23)
- Our Neighbors – to give your neighbors who need your help. Do not do harm against your neighbor and do not falsely accuse anyone. (vs. 27-30)
GOD’S PUNISHMENTS AND REWARDS:
- The Lord detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence. (v. 32)
- The Lord curses the wicked and blesses the righteous. (v. 33)
- The Lord mocks at the proud but gives grace to the humble. (v. 34)
- The Lord let the wise inherit honor but gives shame to the fools. (v. 35)
