SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 13
MEMORY VERSES:
“He who guards his lips guards hi life, gut he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. (Proverbs 13″3)
“Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.” (Proverbs 13:10)
“He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.” (Proverbs 13:18)
“He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” (Proverbs 13:20)
“He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.” (Proverbs 13:24)
HOW TO BE WISE:
- Heed father’s instruction. (v. 1)
- Guard your lips (v. 3)
- Hate what is false. (v. 5)
- Take advice. (v. 10)
- Respect command. (v. 13)
- Learn from teachings of the wise. (v. 14)
- Accept correction. (v. 18)
- Walk with the wise. (v. 20)
COUNSEL ON WEALTH:
- Do not get wealth dishonestly. (v. 11a)
- Work to gain wealth. (v. 11b)
- Give inheritance to the next generation. (v. 22)
THOUGHTS:
This chapter gave some practical counsel on how to become wise. It also counseled concerning wealth.
PRACTICAL COUNSEL:
- Practice self-control in what you say.
- Select good choices and make right decisions.
- Be open to advices of others and be willing to admit your mistakes.
- Read the Bible and follow God’s instruction.
- Make good judgment to avoid unwise relationship, wasteful purchases or poorly conceived plan.
- Be careful when you choose your closest friends. Spend time with faithful and upright friends.
- Seek advice from more matured and experienced friends.
- Do what we can to fight injustice.
- Discipline a child and guide them to understand what is right and wrong. Nurture them to seek God’s wisdom.
