SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 15
MEMORY VERSES:
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
“The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.” (Proverbs 15:2)
“The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4)
“A fool spurns his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.” (Proverbs 15:5)
“The house of the righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings them trouble.” (Proverbs 15:6)
“The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but t he prayer of the upright pleases him. The Lord detest the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness.” (Proverbs 15:8-9)
“Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred.” (Proverbs 15:16-17)
“A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.” (Proverbs 15:18)
“He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.” (Proverbs 15:31-32)
“The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” (Proverbs 15:33)
WISE MAN:
- His gentle answer turns away wrath. (v. 1)
- His tongue commends knowledge and brings healing. (vs. 2, 4)
- He heeds correction and shows prudence. (v. 5)
- His house contains great treasure. (v. 6)
- His lips spread knowledge. (v. 7)
- His prayers please the Lord. (v. 8)
- The Lord loves him. (v. 9)
- He has a happy heart and cheerful face. (v. 13)
- His discerning heart seeks knowledge. (v. 14)
- His cheerful heart has a continual feast. (v. 15)
- His patience calms a quarrel. (v. 18)
- His path is a highway. (v. 19)
- He brings joy to his father. (v. 20)
- He keeps a straight course. (v. 21)
- He succeeds with many advisers. (v. 22)
- He speaks timely words. (v. 23)
- His path of life goes upward. (v. 24)
- His thoughts are pleasing to the Lord. (v. 26)
- He weights his answers. (v. 28)
- The Lord hears his prayer. (v. 29)
- He listens to life-giving rebuke. (v. 31)
- He heeds correction and gains understanding. (v. 32)
- He fears the Lord and is humble. (v. 33)
FOOLISH MAN:
- He utters harsh words and stirs up anger. (v. 1)
- His mouth gushes folly. (v. 2)
- His deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. (v. 4)
- He spurns his father’s discipline. (v. 5)
- His income brings him trouble. (v. 6)
- The Lord detest his sacrifice and his ways. (v. 8-9)
- Stern discipline awaits him. (v. 10)
- He resents correction and will not consult the wise. (v. 12)
- His mouth feeds on folly. (v. 14)
- His hot-temper stirs up dissension. 9v. 18)
- His way is blocked with thorns. 9v. 19)
- He despises his mother. (v. 20)
- He delights a man who lacks judgment. ( v. 21)
- His plans fail for lack of counsel. (v. 22)
- The Lord detest his thoughts. (v. 26)
- He brings trouble to his family. (v. 27)
- His mouth gushes evil. (v. 28)
- The Lord is far from him. (v. 29)
- He ignores discipline and despises himself. (v. 32)
HEART:
- Happy heart – makes the face cheerful. (v. 13)
- Discerning hearty – seeks knowledge. (v. 14)
- Cheerful heart – brings joy. (v. 15, 30)
- Righteous heart – weight its answer. (v. 28)
THOUGHTS:
Wise people know how to control anger and respond with a gentle answer at the right time and in the right spirit. But foolish people stir up anger with harsh words that gushes folly. How about you? Do you think before pouring out your thoughts without considering its impact? Remember that rising voice and harsh words stirs up anger but gentle answers will turn away wrath and seek peace.
Be careful in seeking knowledge. Be discerning in the kinds of books you read, the people you associate with, the music you listen to and the films you watch. They will be fed into your mind that will influence your mental health and body well-being.
The secret to happy heart is to fill your mind with those that are true, pure and lovely. We cannot choose what will happen to us but we can choose our attitude towards evil situation. As you face the struggles of daily life, look at your attitudes and choose the ones you want them to enter into your mind.
In order to take the right road, you should be open-minded in seeking the advice of those who have a wealth of experience. Be willing to listen to their suggestions and accept new ideas for you to succeed.
