SCRIPTURE: SONG OF SONGS 8
This Lover was imagining love with all kinds of wonderful experiences together. But true love cannot remain in the mind. It has to be fulfilled in life. An imaginary love for Christ is useless and ineffective in Christian life. (vs. 1-3)
The Beloved experienced true affection when she said: “His left arm is under my head and his right hand embraces me.” (v. 3). Our love for Christ must also be a living and growing experience by communing with Him in private, leaning on Him in the wilderness and enjoying Him in the field.
3 IMAGES TO ILLUSTRATE TRUE LOVE (vs. 6-7)
- Seal over your heart – Two lovers belong to each other until separated by death.
- Blazing fire burning like a mighty flame – Nothing can quench the power of love.
- Wealth – it shows how precious love is.
A family must protect a young daughter until she is matured enough to marry. Either she is a wall or a door, she must be protected. (vs. 8-11)
The Lover wanted to hear the voice of his Beloved. Similarly, God wanted to hear your voice. But you should also listen to His voice through the Word and by His Holy Spirit.
THOUGHTS:
In this final chapter of Song of Songs, it emphasized on what real love is. It is as strong as death. It cannot be killed by time or disaster and it cannot be bought. Love is priceless and must be accepted as a gift from God. Appreciate the love of your spouse and strive to make your love with other a reflection of the perfect love that comes from God himself.
The girl willingly gave Solomon its fruits in her vineyard. In marriage, devotion and commitment are keys to a good relationship. There is no private property, for everything is shared between the partners. There must be no secrets from each other. Genuine marital love should reflect God’s faithfulness to us. May this love poem teaches to have real human love relationship and motivate us to have a loving committed marriage reflecting God’s love.
