Our Daily Scripture – 6/23/24 (Sunday)

SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 4

MEMORY VERSE:

“In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.” (Isaiah 4:2)

THE BRANCH OF THE LORD (vs. 1-6)

“In that day” refers to the coming Kingdom when the Lord will be exalted.

EVENTS “IN THAT DAY”:

  1.  The branch of the Lord will be beautiful. (v. 2a)
  2.  There will be survivors in Israel. (v. 2b)
  3.  Those who remained in Jerusalem will be called holy. (v. 3)
  4.  The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; He will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. (v. 4)
  5.  The Lord will create over all of mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night. (v. 5)
  6.  It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain, (v. 6)

THOUGHTS:

Isaiah looked beyond the impending crises to the glory that would come to Israel.  During the distress, some people will be protected by God’s loving grace.  Those protected will be set apart with holiness as their distinctive mark.  Let us start to enjoy God’s blessings now by letting him wash us clean and set us apart with His presence.
