SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 6
MEMORY VERSE:
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, Send me!”
ISAIAH’S COMMISION (vs. 1-13)
- Isaiah saw the Lord seated on a throne high and exalted. There were seraphs each with 6 wings. 2 wings covered their face, 2 covered the feet and 2 were flying saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” (v. 3) The sound of their voices shook the doorpost and threshold and the temple was full of smoke.
- Then Isaiah saw himself a sinner with unclean lips. One of the seraph flew and touched his lips and took his guilt away.
- He heard the voice of the Lord sending him to tell the people his message.
THOUGHTS:
Isaiah viewed God as holy, sovereign, mighty, powerful and great. He recognized his sinfulness before God. When his lip was touched with a live burning coal, he was told that his sins were forgiven. In response, he submitted himself entirely to God’s service when he said to God; “Here am I, send me!.” (v. 8). Cleaning process was necessary before Isaiah could fulfill the task that God had called him. Similarly, before we accept God’s call to speak for him, we must be cleansed by confessing our sins and submitting to God’s will. Are you willing to accept God’s call to be his spokesman? Will you also answer Him: “Here am I , send me!”?
Although God knew that the people’s heart were hardened and won’t listen to Isaiah’s message, He still sent Isaiah because He knew there was a remnant of faithful followers. He is merciful to those who are faithful to Him.
The people refused to listen to God until after their land was destroyed by the enemies and the people were taken into captivity. When will you listen to God? Do you need to undergo calamities before you will listen to God’s Word? Obey Him before time worn out.
