SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 21

A PROPHECY AGAINST BABYLON (vs. 1-10)

When God showed to Isaiah the surrounding he was in, he was distressed and felt like a woman in labor.  He was staggered by what he heard and bewildered by what he saw.  His heart faltered and fear made him trembled.   It was very painful for him to “give birth” to God’s message.  Isaiah saw the nation’s leaders feasting and drinking.  Then a man in a chariot with a team of horses came.  This symbolized the forthcoming destruction of Babylon by the Medes and Persians.

A PROPHECY AGAINST EDOM (vs. 11-12)

Edom was a constant enemy of Israel.  They rejoiced when Israel fell to the Assyrians.  But Isaiah saw the coming destruction of Edom.

A PROPHECY AGAINST ARABIA (vs. 13-17)

Arabia was a border city that controlled trade routes.  Isiah predicted its disaster.

THOUGHTS:

Babylon was a great and powerful city.  But it was filled with horrible sins – idolatry, witchcraft, temple prostitutes.  So God was sending the Medes and Persians to attack Babylon.

Edom was the descendants of Esau.  Obadiah foretold the destruction of Edom in detail.

The Lord had spoken that Arabia will come to its end.  Their survivors and their warriors will be few.
