SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 31
WOE TO THOSE WHO RELY ON EGYPT (vs. 1-9)
Judah looked to other nations for military help. They relied on their horses, chariots and horsemen, but do not seek help from God. As a result, they will stumble and perish.
One day, the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion. He will save Jerusalem, deliver and rescue it. Then the people will throw away their idols away and worship the true God.
THOUGHTS:
When we have problems, it is good to seek help. But we must never bypass God. Our idols today may be in the form of money, fame or success. They seem exciting but they are seductive. Be careful not to become their slaves because it will rob us of our time, energy and devotion that ought to be directed towards God. We need to realize their worthlessness now before they rob us of our freedom.
