[:en]Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Biblical Truth: Jesus taught his disciples “The Beatitudes” known as the Sermon on the Mount. Beatitude comes from the Latin word beatus, meaning blessed. In the New Testament, the Greek word makarios means more than happiness. It describes an inner joy that cannot be taken away by the world. Those who are poor in spirit, mourn, meek, and hunger and thirst for righteousness characterize our relationship with God. While being merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers and being persecuted are manifestations of our relationship with the people. Jesus was teaching godly qualities to His followers so that they will be blessed.
Personal Application: We often equate God’s blessings with material things such as wealth, comfort, good health, prestige, reputation, etc. But Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount stated that being blessed does not have anything to do with external happiness that is dependent on circumstance around us. The blessedness is rooted in one’s relationship with God and fellowmen.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your blessings. May we seek to have a close relationship with you and peace among other people.[:]
