SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 53
HOW JESUS CHIRST SUFFERED:
- He was despised and rejected by men. (v. 3)
- He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. (v. 4)
- He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. (v. 5)
- He was oppressed and afflicted yet he did not open his mouth. (v. 7a)
- He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. (v. 7b)
- He was taken away by oppression and judgment. (v. 8a)
- He was cut off from the land of the living for the transgression of the people. (v. 8b)
- He was assigned a grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death. (v. 9)
- He was crushed with unbearable sufferings. (v. 10)
- He poured out his life unto death. (v. 12a)
- He bore the sins of many and made intercession for the transgressors. (v. 12b)
EFFECT OF HIS DEATH:
- He will see the light of life and be satisfied. (v. 11)
- He will be given a portion among the great. (v. 12a)
- He will divide the spoils with the strong. (v. 12b)
THOUGHTS:
This chapter pictures the Savior as a beaten servant. He was an innocent lamb given as an offering for sin. He will see his offspring and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. (v. 10). He became a victorious Savior as he made intercessions for the transgression of many. His strength is shown by humility, suffering and mercy. He brought salvation and healing and made forgiveness available to all people. Will you reject him or accept him?
