SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 62
ZION’S NEW NAME (vs. 1-12)
GOD’S PROMISES TO ZION:
- The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You will be called by a new name. (v. 2)
- You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord/s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. (v. 3)
- You will no longer be called Deserted or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah and your land Beulah. (v. 4)
- Your God will rejoice over you., (v. 5)
- There will be watchmen on your walls. (v. 6)
- There will be no grain as food for your enemies and foreigners will never drink the new wine which you have toiled. (v. 8)
- Those you harvest the grain will eat it and praise the Lord, and those who gather the grapes will drink it in the courts of my sanctuary. (v. 9)
- The Savior will come with his reward for them. (v. 11)
- They will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the Lord and they will no longer be deserted. (v. 12)
THOUGHTS:
The Psalmist prayed for the peace of Jerusalem. The nation restoration will be as joyful as a wedding. Beulah means “married” and Hephzibah means “my delight is in her”. The people were divorced from God because of their sins. But when God cleansed their sins, they will be called “The Holy People” and the “People Redeemed by the Lord”. People today will also have “CHRISTIANS” as their new names.
