SCRITPURE:  JEREMIAH 24

TWO BASKETS OF FIGS (vs. 1-10)

The Lord showed Jeremiah two baskets of figs.  One basket have every good figs while the other basket had very poor figs.

INTERPRETATION:

The exiles from Judah to Babylon were like the good figs.  They will be brought back.  God will build them up, plant them and give them a heart to know Him.  They will be God’s people because they had returned to God will all their hearts.

The poor figs represent Zedekiah, king o Judah, his officials and the survivors from Jerusalem.  They will be ridiculed and cursed.  God will send sword, famine and plague against them until they were destroyed.

THOUGHTS:

The fresh ripe figs represent the exiles to Babylon whose hearts would respond to God.  God would preserve them and bring them back to the Lord.

The spoiled fig represents those who remained in Judah or ran away to Egypt.  They believed that they would be blessed if they remained in the land.  But the opposite was true because God was using the captivity to refine the exiles

Oftentimes, we assumed that we are blessed when life goes well and curse when it does not.  But trouble is a blessing when it makes you stronger while prosperity will entice you away from God.  If you are facing trouble, ask God to help you grow stronger to Him.  If things are going fine, ask God to help you use your prosperity for Him.
