SCRIPTURE: JEREMIAH 46
A MESSAGE ABOUT EYGPT (vs. 1-28)
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah concerning the nation of Egypt:
Egypt will be defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. Their warriors will flee in haste. The sword will devour them with blood. The warriors will stumble on one another and fall down together. The day of disaster is coming upon them, the time for them to be punished. They will cut down their forest. The daughter of Egypt will be put to shame and handed over to the people of the north. Punishment will be brought over to Amon, god of Thebes, on Pharaoh, on Egypt and her gods and her kings and on those who rely on Pharaoh. They will be handed down to Nebuchadnezzar and his officials.
But God will save Israel’s descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security. God assured his presence and he will only discipline them with justice.
THOUGHTS:
Josiah, Judah’s last king was slain at Carchemish when he fought Egypt. But now, Egypt would be defeated at Carchemish by the Babylonians. The Egyptians thought that they were like the Nile rising up to flood the enemy but they would fall.
God looked a the Egypt as a heitian that will be beaten by the Babylonian fly. The Babylon army was like grasshoppers in number and Egyptians would flee like a frightened serpent.
God corrected His people in love. He would still save them and be with them. He promised that they would return to their land be established again.
