THOUGHTS:

The Ammonites and Moabites were descendants of Lot and enemies of the Jews. Molech was the god of the Ammonites with worship involving the sacrificing of children.  His name means “the reigning one” but he would reign no more but go into captivity.

The Edomites were descendants of Esau, brother of Jacob and they too hated the Jews.  They were invaded by the Babylonians.  Their judgment was described as like the stripping of a vineyard (v. 9). getting drunk (v. 12), the destroying of Sodom and Gomorrah (v. 18), the attacking of a lion from the Jordan thicket (v. 19) and the sudden swopping down of an eagle. (v. 22)

Damascus would be fearful like a woman in labor (v. 24), and Kedar, Hazor and Elam would be scattered to the wind like chaff (v. 32-36).  All these proud kingdoms resisted the Lord but bore with the long suffering judgment.

Edom was destroyed because of its pride.  Pride deludes us into thinking that we can take care of ourselves without God’s help.  Even serving God and others can lead us into pride.  Examine yourself and ask God to point out and remove any pride you are harboring.
