THOUGHTS:
The nation from the north was Mede-Persian, an alliance of Mede and Persia. They came out of the north to defeat Babylon and leave it desolate. Babylon’s brutal treatment to the Israelites was being judged. King Cyrus took the city of Babylon by surprised and brought the nation to its collapse in 539 BC. The complete destruction was accomplished by later Persian king. So God enabled Babylon to crush Assyria. Then Babylon in turn would be crushed by Mede-Persia.
Pride was Babylonia’s characteristic sin. Pride came when one feels self-sufficient and believe that he does not need God. Proud nations or people will eventually fail because they refuse to recognize God as the ultimate power. Let us ask God to help us get rid of our pride and focus our attention on the greatness and goodness of God.
