EZEKIEL 35

A PROPHESY AGAINST EDOM (vs. 1-15)

SINS OF EDOM:

  1.  They harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity. (v. 5)
  2.  They did not hate bloodshed. (v. 6)
  3.  They said: “These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them. (v. 10)
  4.  They said against the mountains of Israel: “They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.” (v. 12)
  5.  They boasted against God and spoke against God without restraint. (vb. 13)
  6.  They rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate. (v. 15)

PUNISHMENTS OF GOD TO EDOM:

  1.  I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from all who come and go. (v. 7)
  2.  I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills, valleys and in all your ravines. (v. 8)
  3.  I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. (v. 9)
  4.  I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them. (v. 11a)
  5.  I will make myself known among them when I judge you. (v. 11b)
  6.  I will make you desolate while the whole earth rejoices. (v. 14)
  7.  Mount Seir and all of Edom will be desolate. (v. 15)

THOUGHTS:

God pronounced judgment on Edom, the descendants of Jacob’s brother Esau.  Their sins are hatred, grudges, anger, envy and pride.  They hated Jacob’s descendants with grudges that refused to forget and forgive.  Due to hatred, they helped the Babylonians ravage against Jerusalem.  The Edomites boasted of their great security in the rocks, but God brought them down.

Let us now examine ourselves if we have those sins in our hearts.

  1.  ANGER – Are you ANGRY with someone until now?
  2.  HATRED – Is there someone that you hated?
  3.  GRUDGES – Are you holding GRUDGES against anyone?
  4.  ENVY – Are you ENVIOUS  of someone’s success?
  5.  PRIDE – Are you PROUD of your accomplishments?  Remember that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. (1 Peter 5:5)
