SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 38

A PROPHECY AGAINST GOG (vs. 1-31)

  1. God was against Gog.  He will turn Gog around and put hooks in his jaws.  Gog will bring his whole army together with Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer, Beth Togarmah with swords, shields and helmets and take command of them.  (vs. 4-8)
  2. Gog will advance like a storm, like a cloud covering the land to invade Israel. (v. 9-12)
  3. When Gog attacks the land of Israel, there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. (v. 19)
  4. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. (v. 20a)
  5.  The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. (v. 20b)
  6.  God will summon a sword against Gog on all the mountains. (v. 21a)
  7.  God will execute judgment upon Gog with plague and bloodshed. (v. 21b)
  8.  God will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on God and on his troops and on many nations with him. (v. 22)

THOUGHTS:

Gog is a symbol of all the evil in the world.  It represents the aggregate military might of all the forces oppose to God.  They allied with a confederacy of nations to destroy God’s people.  But God will directly intervene in the defense of Israel.  God unleashed severe natural disasters on the invaders. At the end, the invading nations end up in confusion and panic.  All those who set themselves against God will be destroyed.
