Our Daily Scripture – 1/13/25 (Monday)

SCRIPTURE:  AMOS 6

WOE TO THE COMPLACENT (vs. 1-7)

The nation was guilty of complacency with their false confidence.  They trusted the military leaders and not the Lord.  The people were enjoying luxuries without any consideration for others.  Therefore, they will go to exile.  Their feasting and lounging will end.

THE LORD ABHORS THE PRIDE OF ISRAEL (vs. 8-14)

Israel became proud and turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness.  They boasted of of their own strength.  So God gave them 3 judgments: (1)-death, (2)-destruction and (3)-defeat.  God will stir up a nation against them and oppress them which they could not escape.

THOUGHTS:

The people of Israel and Judah were living in complacency and luxury because of their great wealth and comfortable life.  God is not pleased because they did no care for the needs of others.  God wants us to be generous by using our wealth to help others and to guard against pride and complacency.

The people built luxurious house and boasted their achievements which result in inflated pride and self-glorification.  God gave our house to be used for service and not just for show.
