- All their fortresses with ripe fruits will fall into the mouth of the eater. (v. 1)
- Their gates are wide open to the enemies and fire has consumed their bars. (v. 13)
- Fire will devour them, sword will cut them down. (v. 15)
- Their merchants will be multiplied but they are like the locust stripping the land and fly away. (v. 16)
- Their guards are like locusts, their officials like swam of locusts that settle in the walls on a cold day but when the sun appears, they fly way. (v. 17)
- Their shepherds slumber, their nobles lie down to rest, but the people are scattered on the mountains with no one to gather them. (v. 18)
- Their injury is fatal and their wounds cannot be healed. (v. 19a)
- Everyone will clap his hands at their fall because of their cruelty. (v. 19b)
THOUGHTS:
Nineveh used its beauty, prestige and power to seduce other nations. She is like a harlot enticing nations with false friendship. When the nations trusted her, the Assyrians destroy and plunder them. Assyria is vicious and deceitful inside but beautiful and impressive outside. Beware of institution, company or movements who are trying to seduce you to compromise your moral principles.
All people wanted to be powerful, wealthy and prestigious. The thought of being on top is very captivating. But power is seductive. Those who lust after power will be powerfully destroyed like the mighty Assyrian empire.
