SCRIPTURE: ZECHARIAH 6
FOUR CHARIOTS (1-8)
Zechariah saw four chariots coming out from between two mountains – mountain of bronze
- 1st chariot – red
- 2nd chariot – black – to the north
- 3rd chariot – white – to the west
- 4rd chariot – dapled – to the south
They represent 4 spirits of heaven who stand before the Lord of all the earth. These powerful horses went to patrol back and forth across the earth. Those who went north have vented the anger of the Lord.
THE CROWN FOR JOSHUA (vs. 9-15)
Here is another message from the Lord. Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen will bring gifts of silver and gold from the Jews exiled in Babylon. As soon as they arrive, Zechariah has to go to the house of Josiah, take the silver and gold and make a crown and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua. Tell him that the Lord Almighty says: Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the Lord. It is he who will build the temple of the Lord and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.
The crown will be a memorial in the temple of the Lord to honor those who gave it – Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen. Many will come from distant lands to rebuild the temple of the Lord Almighty.
THOUGHTS:
This vision is about the Messiah, the King Priest. After the exile, Judah’s government will be ruled by two distinct persons, the king ruling the national’s political life and the high priest, ruling its religious life. God was telling Zechariah that someone worthy of the crown would come to rule as both king and priest.
The rebuilding the the Temple required careful obedience so that God protect the people. Casual or occasional obedience is the result of a half-hearted or divided commitment which would not lead to blessings. If you want consistent blessing from God, you must obey Him diligently.
