Our Daily Scripture – 2/20/25 (Thursday)

SCRIPTURE:  ZECHARIAH 12

JERUSALEM’S ENEMIES TO BE DESTROYED – AN ORACLE (vs. 1-9)

WHAT GOD WILL DO:

  1.  I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. (v. 3)
  2.  I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness. (v. 4a)
  3.  I will keep a a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. (v. 4b)
  4.  I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among heaves. (v. 6)
  5.  I will save the dwellings of Judah first. (v. 7)
  6.  I will shield those who live in Jerusalem. (v. 8)
  7.  I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. (v. 9)

MOURNING FOR THE ONE THEY PIERCED (vs. 10-13)

Jerusalem will weep like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.  All the clans (David, Nathan, Levi, Shimei ) and all the rest of the clans will remain.

THOUGHTS:

“In that day” refers to the day when Christ will return to the earth to defeat His enemies, deliver Israel and establish His kingdom.  Jerusalem will be at the center of attention.

IMAGE THAT THE PROPHET USED TO DESCRIBE JERUSALEM:

  1.  A cup of strong wine that make the nations drunk. (v. 2)
  2.  A heavy stone that will crush the nations (v. 3)
  3.  A firepan and torch that will devour the nations. (v. 6)

Those who attack Israel will be defeated, for God will protect them.

We will also experience many trials and difficulties like the people of Israel, but God will see us through and share His kingdom and glory with us.
