SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 7
MEMORY VERSE:
“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” (2 Corinthians 7:10)
PAUL’S JOY (vs. 1-16)
Paul expressed his joy to the Corinthian believers because:
- They gave comfort to Titus (v. 7a)
- They longed for him. (v. 7b)
- They showed their deep sorrow (v. 7c)
- They had ardent concern for him. (v. 7d)
- His letter led them to godly sorrow and repentance. (vs. 8-9)
- Repentance led them to salvation that left no regret. (v. 10)
- Titus was happy because they had refreshed his spirit. (v. 13)
- Their obedience to receive Titus with fear and trembling. (v. 15)
THOUGHTS:
Paul was very happy when he learned that the Corinthian church had followed his advise of cleansing and clearing. He was comforted when Titus reported that they were obedient and caring.
According to Mr. Warren Wiersbe, true repentance includes a change of mind, a hatred for sin, a willingness to make things right, a will that is touched and a conviction that is firm and deep.
