SCRIPTURE:  1 THESSALONIANS 2

PAUL’S MINISTRY IN THESSALONICA (vs. 1-16)

  1. Paul and his companions proclaimed the gospel in spite of strong opposition. (v. 2)
  2. They spoke as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. (v. 4a)
  3. They were not trying to please men but God. (v. 4b)
  4. They never used flattery nor did they put on a mask to cover up greed. (v. 5)
  5. They were not looking for praise from men nor from anyone else. (v. 6)
  6. They were like a mother caring for her little children. (v. 7)
  7. They loved the Thessalonica believers sharing the gospel of god and their lives. (v. 8)
  8. They worked hard day and night in order not to be a burden to anyone while preaching the gospel of God. (v. 9)
  9. They were holy, righteous and blameless among those who believed. (v. 10)
  10. They dealt with them as a father deals with his own children. (v. 11)
  11. They encouraged, comforted and urged them to live lives worthy of God. (v. 12)

PAUL THANK GOD FOR THE THESSALONIANS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

  1. They received the word of God from us and accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is the word of God. (v. 13)
  2. They became imitators of God’s churches in Judea;  Suffering from their own countrymen the same things those churches suffered from the Jews who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets. (v. 15)

PAUL’S LONGING TO SEE THE THESSALONIANS (vs. 17-20)

Paul and his co-workers wished to meet the Thessalonians again because they were their hope, joy and glory.  But Satan had stopped them.

THOUGHTS:

Gentleness is love in action – being considerate, meeting the needs of others, allowing time for the other person to talk, and being willing to learn.  It is an essential trait to maintain good relationship with others.  Ask God to make you become gentle.

Although Paul had the right to receive financial support from the people he taught, he supported himself as a tentmaker so that he would not be a burden to the new Thessalonian believers.

Paul encouraged the Thessalonians to live in a way God would consider worthy. How do you reflect God in your life?

The Gentile Christians in Thessalonica were so discouraging because they were being persecuted by their own fellow Gentiles.  Sometimes when you take a stand for Christ, opposition, disapproval or ridicule may come from your neighbors, friends or even family members.

Paul did not get reward of money, prestige or fame from his ministry of preaching the gospel.  He got his highest joy when he saw the lives of the new believers had been changed.  That was why he longed to see them
