[:en]Teachings of King Lemuel’s mother to her son: (vs. 1-9)

“Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.  It is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.  Speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.  Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

A true wife is a virtuous woman who has a noble character.  Her husband has full confidence in her because she brings good not harm to him all the days of her life.  Her worth is beyond comparison. (vs. 10-12)

Character of a noble wife:

  1. She is diligent and industrious toiling willingly with her hands (v. 13)
  2. She does marketing for the needs of the family (v. 14)
  3. She wakes up early to provide food for the household (v. 15)
  4. She knows how to invest by buying land and producing income from it (v. 16)
  5. She does with all her power and capabilities to do the household chores (v. 17)
  6. She is an entrepreneur who works late into the evening (v. 18)
  7. She works with her hand actively (v. 19)
  8. She is generous to the poor and needy (v. 20)
  9. She plans ahead for her family (v. 21)
  10. She dresses herself  in dignified way and manages house properly (v. 22)
  11. She adds her husband’s reputation to the world (v. 23)
  12. She knows how to trade for profit (v. 24)
  13. She has the capability, strength and dignity in her tasks (v. 25)
  14. She speaks wisdom and gives good instruction (v. 26)
  15. She is not idle and manages the affairs of her household efficiently (v. 27)
  16. She is adored by her children and loved by her husband (v. 28)

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (v. 30)
