[:en]Thoughts from Ecclesiastes 2[:]

[:en]SOLOMON EXPERIENCE HIS LIFE WITH;

  1. Pleasure – “I tried cheering myself with wine” (v. 2)
  2. Accomplishments – “I undertook great projects …. I build house for myself and planted vineyards.  I made gardens and park s and planted all kinds of fruit trees.  I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees” (vs. vs.4-6)
  3. Possessions – “I bought male and female slaves.  I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem” (v. 7)
  4. Riches – “I amassed silver and gold for myself and the treasure of kings and provinces” (v. 8a)
  5. Delight – “I acquired men and women singers and a harem  – the delights of the heart of man” (v. 8b)
  6. Fame – “I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me” (v. 9)

All the above things can only bring enjoyment for a moment but with no lasting peace.

WISDOM AND FOLLY ARE MEANINGLESS:

Same fate comes to the wise and the fool.  They all die and will no longer be remembered (vs. 15-16).

TOIL IS MEANINGLESS:

“For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then he must leave all he owns to someone who has not worked for it.  This too is meaningless and a great misfortune” (v. 21)

He concluded that without God, one can not eat and find enjoyment in his life. (vs. 24-25)
