[:en]A sister pinched his brother because he had said something mean to her.  Then the brother grabbed her arm because she had pinched him.  This pattern, which is common between children can show up in adult relationship too.

One person offends another, and the hurt person shoots back a verbal blow.  The original offender retaliates with another insult.  As a result, anger and cruel words have damaged their relationship.

Before Jesus’ crucifixion, the religious leaders also tried to provoke Him and hurled insults at Him. (Mat. 27:41-43)  Jesus did not retaliate.  He entrusted Himself to His Father who judges justly. (1 Peter 2:23)

Let us follow the example of Jesus in responding to people who offend us.  Do not use words as weapon.  The Bible says:  The word of the reckless pierce like swords and a harsh word stirs up anger.  But a gentle answer turns away wrath.  (Prov. 12:18, 15:1)  Sometimes not answering at all is the best way to deal with insults or cruel comments.  Ask God and the Holy Spirit to give you self-control in dealing with all kinds of people.[:]
